Dear Neighbor,
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving holiday surrounded by loved ones.
THANK YOU to the voters of Lenoir, Jones, and Greene counties for re-electing me to serve another 2 years in the NC House! We couldn’t have won by such a large margin without the support of each and every one of you. Now, our work continues as go back to Raleigh and fight to make ENC the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
In this newsletter, you'll find key highlights of our recent work at the General Assembly — including the latest Hurricane Helene relief package. As always, feel free to contact my office if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback to share.
At your service,
Chris Humphrey
State Representative
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
This Thanksgiving weekend, let’s give thanks to the hardworking farmers who make it possible for our tables to be full, to the first responders who keep us safe, and to the military & veterans who protect our freedoms. Your dedication and resilience are the backbone of Eastern NC communities. We hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
3RD ROUND OF RELIEF FOR WNC
Last week, the House passed Senate Bill 382, delivering an additional $252 million for Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. That brings the state’s total investment to an historic $1.1 billion to help families and communities get back on their feet.
Every dollar matters, and we’re working to ensure this funding truly helps those in need. We’ll continue to stand with Western North Carolina until the region is fully restored.
VETO OVERRIDE: HOUSE BILL 10
The NC House has officially overridden Governor Cooper’s veto of House Bill 10, which strengthens the safety of our communities by requiring sheriffs to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. The bill, now law, also provides funding for Opportunity Scholarships, which give parents the ability to choose the educational environment that’s best for their children.
NEW GREENE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
Last week, we cut the ribbon on the new Greene County Sheriff's Office in Snow Hill. This modern facility is a huge step forward for public safety, ensuring faster response times and improved service for our residents.
Thank you to Sheriff Matt Sasser, his team, and the Greene County Board of Commissioners for their hard work in making this possible — and doing so without raising taxes.
NEW LEADERSHIP IN THE NC HOUSE
Congratulations to Speaker-designate Destin Hall and the entire newly appointed NC House leadership team! 🎉 From strengthening our economy to improving public safety and building resilient infrastructure, I’m confident this group will help guide us to achieve great things for our state.
It’s an honor to represent Eastern NC, and I look forward to collaborating with Speaker Hall, Majority Leader Brenden Jones, Rules Chair John Bell, and the rest of our leadership team to ensure a prosperous future for every North Carolinian.
BREAKING GROUND IN JONES COUNTY
I had the honor of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for The Filling Station’s new warehouse in Pollocksville. With support from the Golden Leaf Foundation and Harold H. Bate Foundation, this expansion will enhance food distribution, improve volunteer conditions, and strengthen partnerships with local farms and churches.
The Filling Station continues to be a vital resource for Jones County and the region, addressing needs in nutrition, education, and disaster relief. This project is a testament to their incredible impact and dedication to our community.
CELEBRATING OUR FARMERS
Earlier this month, we celebrated the first annual NC Farmer Appreciation Day! This special day — established through legislation championed by Rep. Jimmy Dixon and supported by the NC Grange, NC Farm Bureau, and the NC Department of Agriculture — is dedicated to recognizing the hard work and commitment of our farmers across the state.
With farms contributing over $100 billion to our state’s economy each year, it’s clear our farmers are essential to our communities, economy, and way of life. Please join me in honoring and thanking the NC farmers who provide a sustainable future for us all.
LENOIR COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE PROMOTES OUTSTANDING STAFF
A heartfelt congratulations to all those honored at the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office promotional ceremony, hosted last week at Lenoir Community College. Sheriff Jackie Rogers and his outstanding team exemplify dedication and commitment to keeping our community safe. Thank you for your service and leadership — you are truly appreciated!
