Dear Neighbor,
We've had quite a productive month as we've officially convened for short session: voting on legislation, working in committees, and engaging with constituents to help them navigate the complexities of state government.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to read our newsletter, keeping you up to date with the latest happenings in Raleigh and in our district. Let us know if you have any questions or if there is anything our office can do to be of assistance to you. We're grateful for your continued trust, support, and prayers.
At your service,
Chris Humphrey
State Representative
NC HOUSE PAGES FROM OUR DISTRICT
Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of hosting Corrin Rennie of Jones County & Allison Manning of Lenoir County to serve alongside of us as House Pages in the NC General Assembly. I’m encouraged by their passion for public service and I’m confident both of these young ladies will continue to make a positive impact on the future of Eastern NC.
HUMPHREY TACKLES SQUATTING ISSUE
Squatting is a serious threat to communities. North Carolina’s current law provides property owners with solid protections, but there’s more we can do to help keep everyone safe. As this General Assembly session continues, I’m committed to strengthening North Carolina’s anti-squatting laws.
ENSURING RELIABLE & AFFORDABLE POWER SERVICE FOR RURAL ENC
We were delighted to host our friends from the Tri-County Electric Membership Corporation at the NC General Assembly last week. This nonprofit member-driven organization works hard to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable power service to rural areas in Eastern North Carolina — and we’re grateful to have their involvement in our communities.
PROTECTING COMMUNITIES OF FAITH
This month, we passed the "Shalom Act" through the NC House with near unanimous bipartisan support. This critical piece of legislation defines antisemitism in state law, aiming to strengthen our fight against hate while upholding our commitment to free speech.
SUPPORTING OUR HEALTH CARE HEROES
We enjoyed meeting with several professionals from Kinston Community Health Center at our office in Raleigh last week. These folks provide quality & accessible health care to the people of our community, and we’re thankful for their dedication to delivering primary and preventative health services at the highest standard of excellence.
CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2024!
Congratulations to the graduating class of Lenoir Community College! I myself am a proud alumnus of LCC, where I attended and served as SGA president before transferring to UNC-Chapel Hill. We’re proud to have this institution in our district — offering students affordable, accessible, and innovative educational opportunities. Go forth and prosper, Class of 2024! Go Lancers!
MEETING WITH GREENE COUNTY SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT
It was a joy to visit with Dr. Frank Creech, Superintendent of Greene County Schools, at our office in Raleigh earlier this month. Dr. Creech is a strong advocate for the families, teachers, and students he serves — and we’re grateful to have his leadership over the Greene County school system.
BBQ & MEET YOUR CANDIDATES EVENT
We had a fantastic turnout at the Greene County BBQ & Meet Your Candidates event, co-hosted by School Board Member Brandon Johnson and myself. We are deeply grateful to all who attended and supported our campaigns for re-election. This election cycle is critical, and it’s going to take all of us pitching in to retain and grow our majority in the NC House. Thank you for your unwavering support and commitment to our community's future.
