Dear Neighbor,
Whether it’s delivering disaster relief, supporting our local schools and youth programs, or working to improve public safety, I’m committed to making Eastern North Carolina the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
This month, I’ve had the privilege of meeting with community leaders, recognizing outstanding young students, and advancing key legislation to support our region.
In this update, you’ll find highlights of the work we’re doing at the state level to strengthen our communities. As always, my office is here to serve you — please don’t hesitate to reach out!
At your service,
Chris Humphrey
State Representative
STANDING WITH OUR FARMERS

It was a pleasure to welcome farmers with Farm Bureau from Lenoir, Greene, and Jones Counties to our NCGA office this week! Agriculture is the backbone of Eastern NC’s economy, and I appreciate the hard work these folks do every day to keep our region growing. Proud to stand with our farmers and support policies that strengthen rural communities.
MORE DISASTER RECOVERY FUNDING

More hurricane relief is on the way! This week, the NC House passed — and the Governor signed into law — a $528 million recovery package to help western NC rebuild after Hurricane Helene. This funding will support farmers, repair roads and bridges, rebuild homes, and get small businesses back on their feet.
House Bill 47 also includes $217 million to help eastern NC residents who were impacted by Hurricanes Matthew and Florence to get back into homes. I’m proud to stand with my colleagues to deliver real help to those who need it most.
SUPPORTING BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF ENC

It was great to welcome Mark Holtzman, Lee Hodge, and Trey Cash to my office in Raleigh earlier this month! The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain do incredible work supporting young people across eastern North Carolina. I appreciate their dedication to our communities and enjoyed discussing how we can continue working together to make a positive impact.
READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK

We had a fantastic time celebrating Read Across America Week with students at both Northwest Elementary and my alma mater, Moss Hill Elementary! It’s always a joy to see young minds engaged and excited about reading.
Huge thanks to the incredible teachers and staff at both schools for all you do to inspire a love of learning!
EASTERN CAROLINA COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS' LEGISLATIVE BREAKFAST

We had a great time at the Eastern Carolina Council of Governments’ Legislative Breakfast in La Grange earlier this month!
I joined my ENC legislative colleagues to share updates on our priorities for the 2025-26 Session.
We’re committed to working together to make Eastern North Carolina the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
NC HOUSE PAGES FROM LENOIR COUNTY

Earlier this month, I was proud to host Campbell Price from South Lenoir High School and Emma Lafone from North Lenoir High School as House Pages for the NC General Assembly!
These bright young students are getting a firsthand look at the legislative process, and I know they have bright futures ahead. Thank you, Campbell and Emma, for your dedication and service!
BREAKFAST WITH GREENE COUNTY CITIZENS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS

Honored to join Greene County citizens, elected officials, and community leaders for a great discussion on the issues that matter most to our region.
From public safety to education and economic growth, working together is key to strengthening Eastern North Carolina.
A big thank you to Greene County for your support and engagement — I’m proud to serve and be a voice for our community!
TRAFFIC UPDATE FOR JONES COUNTY

Heads up, drivers! The intersection at N.C. Highway 41 & Wyse Fork/Ten Mile Fork Road is now a four-way stop.
This change comes after NCDOT studies found the area prone to accidents, making this a cost-effective way to improve safety. Please be alert and drive safely as everyone adjusts to the new traffic pattern.
